More than 75% of adults in the US suffer from back trouble at some point in their lifetime, and we see many patients in our Portland (Woodstock, Sellwood) clinic with this common condition. Sadly, many people don't know that chiropractic is thought to be one of the very best and safest ways to treat back problems.
A 2004 study from Georgia examined 192 patients with low back pain lasting from several weeks. The patients were split into 3 groups: those who received a placebo and sham chiropractic adjustments, those who were given a muscle relaxant and sham chiropractic adjustments, and those who received 7 real chiropractic adjustments over the course of the research study.
At the end of the 30 day study, the researchers found that the sufferers who got the real chiropractic adjustments documented significantly more pain reduction and diminished severity of symptoms when compared to the other groups.
In addition, muscle relaxants have problematic side effects that include sleepiness, dry mouth, and some of them can even contribute to drug dependency.
While a muscle relaxant drug might momentarily lessen symptoms, it isn't a permanent treatment for back pain. In our clinic in Portland (Woodstock, Sellwood), Dr. Helton works to get to the root cause for your suffering and uses safe chiropractic adjustments to eliminate the problem in your spine to get you out of pain.
